After our 2018 research these were some of our findings, Africa currently is battling with numerous challenges, some of them are illiteracy, poverty, violent, terrorism, unemployment, inequality, crime, and abuse. All these challenges take a root from bad leadership. Africa will never be truly free until it has good leaders. The kind of leadership that will change Africa is not that which is elected every 4 years at the polling booth. The leadership that will change Africa is a total overhaul of our cultural attitude as Africans. We must begin to see the world has a jigsaw, this mean that if one is misplaced then we all fail.Africa must go back to dig the UBUNTU value. To change and shape culture, the educational sector is a very important sector to invest in. Politicians have come and gone, they have invested huge amount into infrastructure and system that end up been crashed by the ignorance and bad attitude of individuals. Politicians don’t want invest much in education because it is a long term investment. It is an investment that is slow and cannot be harvested immediately. If Africa will truly achieve its potential, it will start from the school and family not from the hospital, government house, legislative house or court room. Africa must massively invest in grooming and educating the mind of children and young people for socioeconomic growth and development.
Phone shot: Ibadan and Ikorodu Mentor-Protege hub in session
With a growing need of leaders across Africa in every sector, there is a need to raise a new breed of trans-generational leaders. This can be seen through our public office, technology and private sector. Leaders are made not born. In 2015, Akinnike Michael took on mentoring 5 young people, he monthly had time to speak, inspire and encourage them through his daily routine and exploit. They got inspired by his humble beginning and his drive to succeed. As time went by they all went into the university and today all of them are succeeding in their endeavors. A few of this proteges will be on the spotlight in our subsequent communication.
As we look forward to 2020, we are starting the full scale of our Mentor-Protege Hub where young people(proteges) are connected with young leaders in their community in small cells. In this small cell young people will find a supporting system to build the 3Cs of Leadership namely; Character, Competence and Commitment.
It is a year long project where every months proteges meet mentors across 20 locations(Lagos, Ibadan, Uyo, Jos and more) in Nigeria to share, discuss and act on subjects around leadership. In 12 months we hope to build a strong leaders with strong character(values) and competence. The 12 months will test their commitment to leading a life of role-model in their community.
We are sure that this will be a life changing opportunity for both proteges and mentors who enrolled in this year long project.
